>>> ABOUT THIS INFORMATIONAL APAR
This informational APAR includes information about the
IBM Network Station and IBM Network Station Manager
AS/400 product. This apar relates to AS/400 systems
running Version 3 Release 2 or Version 3 Release 7,
and subsequent version and release levels, as needed.
This informational apar will be updated on a regular
basis and therefore we suggest you order and read
it on a regular basis. This apar is a continuation
of info apars: II10405 & II10676 (and
continued in
info apar: II10941 ).

>>> BOOT MONITOR - UPDATES
When a new boot monitor image is made available via a PTF
you may update your Network Stations at your convenience.
Boot monitor images are made available via PTFs and are
named in increasing alphabetical order. For example,
version 2.8.AE is newer (and therefore has addition
function or fixes) than version 2.8.AD . And version
2.9.0 has greater functionality and support than
version 2.8.AE (..etc..).
At any time, you may have your Network Station updated
to a newest boot monitor image...or, you may skip a
particular release of the boot monitor code. For example,
if your Network Station is currently at v2.8.AC,
you can directly update to v2.8.AE without having
to first update to the v2.8.AD level.
To update, or make changes to how the Network Stations'
boot monitor version is updated, use the Network Station
Manager. Go to the "Hardware" section of
the Network
Station Manager, select "System Defaults", then make
the appropriate change to the field:
"Update boot monitor from this file"
In this field you can select the file
relating to the boot monitor image or you can
designate "Default (no update)". The files are
named in a way to indicate the version number.
For example, the file "bp28ae" represents
boot monitor version 2.8.AE .
------------------------------------------------------
>>> BOOT MONITOR - REL 2 (GCX boxes)
The Release 2, GCX Network Stations (model-types:
8361-110 and 8361-210) must have the v2.8.AD
or newer boot monitor image. DO NOT APPLY the
v2.8.AC boot monitor image to these Network Stations.
These Network Stations are currently shipped with the
v2.8.AD or v2.8.AE boot monitor code already installed.
Customers with 8361-110 or 8361-210 Network Stations
that have a prior version of the boot monitor code
(v2.8.AC or earlier) should make sure that the Auto-Update
function in Network Station Manager is set to "No
Update".
To find this option, go to the Hardware page of the Network
Station Manager, select "System Defaults", then change
the
option "Update boot monitor from this file" to read
"Default (no update)".
To protect the GCX (Rel 2) Network Stations from
downloading the v2.8.AC (or older) boot monitor image,
customers can delete older boot monitor image from
the AS/400. For example, to delete the v2.8.AC
boot monitor image (file) use the following command:
RMVLNK OBJLNK('/QIBM/ProdData/NetworkStation/proms/bp28ac')
Customers with the GCX (Release 2) Network Stations
should order the latest PTFs (or the "group ptf")
to obtain the v2.8.AD or v2.8.AE (or greater) boot
monitor image. For v2.8.AD, the Network Station
Manager Program will show this file as: bp28ad
For v2.8.AE, the Network Station Manager
Program will show this file as: bp28ae

>>> BOOT MONITOR - REL 2.5 (Series 1000)
The IBM NetworkStation Model 8362, Series 1000 is
now supported on AS/400s running OS/400 release V3R7
and V4R1. As of 11/21/97, the SF99081 group
ptf (for R370 and R410 only) provides new boot
monitor images version 2.9.0 (for Series 100 and 300)
and 2.9.2 (for Series 1000). These new boot monitor
versions provide a number of enhancements,
including the support for the Series 1000
(model 8362) Network Stations.
After the SF99081 group ptf is applied, customers
can use the Network Station Manager to select the
boot monitor file to update the Network Stations.
This procedure is described above in the "BOOT
MONITOR - UPDATES" section.
Customers will notice 2 new files are available
under the "Update boot monitor from this file" field:
bp292
bp292.63a
Typically, the bp292 file will be selected to upgrade
the Series 100, 300 or 1000 NetworkStations to
the latest boot monitor versions. However, if a
customer does not wish to update the Series 100 and 300
NetworkStations to version 2.9.0, but does wish to
update the Series 1000 NetworkStations to 2.9.2, then
the file bp292.63a can be used. File bp292.63a will
update the Series 1000 Network Stations to 2.9.2, but
when this file is used, the Series 100 and 300 Network
Stations will not be updated.
